biography
eddison joseph somerset was born on april 1st, 1990 to a musician and actor, who together were one of the hottest couples of the eighties and a model relationship for a newer crop of a-list marriages. eddie was the older half of a set of twins, his younger sister having been born only minutes after he was. at the time of their birth, there were already two other sommerset siblings. being the only boy of the bunch left eddie very much alone with his closest siblings. the amount of feminine energy surrounding him in his youth caused him to bend to the will of his other male classmates, doing whatever they desired to prove just how different he was from his sisters. his parents assumed he was lashing out and placed him in acting classes, as a way to channel his energy into something less destructive and troublesome.
eddie fell in love with acting and became very passionate about his craft at a very young age. he began auditioning at the age of seven and with his father acting as his manager, he booked several commercials. in 2001 he appeared in his first regular television series as matt mcguire on disney's "lizzie mcguire", in which he played the younger brother of the title character. that same year he appeared in his first feature film, playing the brother of an adopted android "ai: artificial intelligence", which quickly proved the youngster's chops as an actor. after his run on "lizzie mcguire" at the age of fourteen, eddie began actively seeking more mature roles, which included a part in 2004's "mean creek" and 2005's "the chumscrubber".
in 2007 he appeared in his first lead film role in the indie comedy "charlie bartlett", playing the teenager/part-time therapist and prescription drug dealer. while filming in toronto, eddie sent out several audition tapes and caught the eye of the casting directors behind the much anticipated "transformers" film. as post-production wrapped on "charlie bartlett", eddie was immediately back in california, meeting with the rest of the production team and beginning his transformation into sam witwicky, which has been his largest role to date.
while he had a few interesting roles under his belt, it was his part in the film based off of the toy franchise that skyrocketed him into the limelight. while he seemed to react well to his new-found fame, it was all because of his parent's humble roots and their upbringing. though eddie now has another franchise in his resume -- the highly talked-about "twilight" series, he credits his laid-back attitude to his parents and their approach to parenting.
